Week of September 19 Big Ideas: understand similarities and differences in organisms, identify organisms using dichotomous keys
Standards: 8.3.5, 8.3.6, 8.2.5 B.5.1, B.5.4
Monday~ Students will continue with Eartholopy game from Friday. Students will use take photos for use in making a dichotomous tree later this week. *H.Bio- will complete IN Native Species Homolgous Structures Station Migration.
Tuesday~Discuss benthic macroinvertebrates and their role in the aquatic food chain. Resource for this this IDNR site under "Indiana Outdoors" tab on my website. Use dichotomous key to identify selected benthic macroinvertebrates. Select 5 organisms from classroom and begin to construct a dichotomous key that you create. Students will watch "how-to" video on dichotomous key construction. Find a dichotomous key that can be used for tree identification and bring to class Tuesday. *H.Bio- will read and discuss article on hybridization.
Wednesday~ Students will work to construct dichotomous tree for 5 species selected on Monday. This should include pictures of the organisms. Students will edit seasons project videos/photos. *H.Bio- will discuss levels of taxonomy.
Thursday~ Students will swap keys and use eachothers' key to identify organisms. Watch video on biodiversity. Work on vocabulary graphic organizer. See list on website.
Friday~ Quiz over dichotomous keys. Complete vocabulary graphic organizer.
