EXTREME WEATHER Video Project Students will: *work in groups of 3-4 *select and research an extreme weather event (hurricane, tornado, hailstorm, drought, blizzard, etc.) * create a final product that is in the form of a video *show the causes of the storm/event Here are some things to incorporate for this part ...... Explain how (using appropriate weather terminology and concepts) this type of event occurs. Students should use weather maps and appropriate symbols. Students should indicate the geographic location of the event. For this portion of the project, students might simulate a meteorologist in the news studio forecasting the event or describing it as it takes place. *show the effects of the storm/event Here are some things to incorporate for this part.... What impact did it have on the people? Were there fatalities? How many fatalities were there? What impact did it have on the community? What was the amount (in dollars) of damage done? How widespread was the damage? Students should replicate either the conditions during the event or the aftermath. For this portion students might consider having someone act as a reporter in the field. Someone in the group could act as a survivor and be interviewed.
Other things to keep in mind include: -Props may be used and should coincide with the time period of the event. -Appropriate dialect and accents of individuals should be considered. -All parts of the project are to be video recorded and edited -iMovie may work well for this. WeVideo is a web-based video production alternative and may be used. Other apps may be considered. -The project will be evaluated and a participation grade will also be assigned to each individual. (This means people who are not using class time appropriately on project days may not get the same participation grade as others.) -A rubric will be provided.
